Tejashwi alleges ‘betrayal of women by NDA’, BJP hits back

Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, on Monday, alleged that the NDA government has betrayed the women of Bihar, claiming that as the government sensed defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, it opened banks even during the elections to influence voters.

In a post on X, the RJD leader wrote that the government lured women voters by transferring Rs 10,000 into their bank accounts. He further alleged that they were later threatened and told that cameras were installed at polling booths, and that if they did not vote for a particular party, the money deposited in their accounts would be recovered.

“They were promised further installments of Rs 2 lakh after the elections, with assurances that within six months the remaining amount would be credited to their accounts. Six months have passed, and now these deceitful leaders are busy playing political games to stay in power. The treasury is empty, and the financial condition is worsening,” he wrote.

“The government knew that despite limited resources, borrowing money to distribute Rs 41,000 crore in cash during the final days of the election to secure votes was a self-destructive move. However, power-hungry leaders prioritised personal interests over the state’s welfare,” he added.

Responding to the allegations, Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi said the statement was “completely false, misleading, and a result of political frustration.” He added that after being repeatedly rejected by the public, Tejashwi was making baseless allegations to grab headlines.

BJP leader and former state minister Shreyasi Singh also countered Tejashwi’s claim of “betrayal of women by the NDA,” asserting that the NDA government had instead undertaken historic measures to empower women, make them self-reliant, and ensure their dignity.

She said women in Bihar are not only becoming self-reliant but are also emerging as a strong part of the administrative and security systems, attributing this change to the NDA government’s policies and commitment.

Targeting the RJD, she said there was a time when women felt insecure even stepping out of their homes, but today those same women are leading in the Bihar Police and other sectors.

She added that women’s participation in the state police force has become a model for the country.

Singh concluded that the Opposition has no substantive issues left and is making such statements merely to remain in the media spotlight.
